September 17th Full Moon Intention and Affirmation: Finding Your True North

The full moon is upon us, so it’s time for a new tarot curated intention and affirmation.

This moon cycle I used my Smith Waite tarot deck, and we pulled The Star, Judgement, and the Knight of Wands.

Be sure to have a look at the cards to see what they awaken in you, let’s dive in.

Intention: After a stormy period, a self-review is in order. What did you learn, what worked well, what didn’t?

How can you use challenging times to get to know yourself better?

Affirmation: My inner light is my guiding light.

The Star

The Star symbolizes hope, inspiration, and spiritual connection. It often represents a period of healing and renewal. It’s also an indication that you’re on the right path, even if the way forward isn’t quite clear to you.

I’d like to point out that during the last moon cycle we pulled The Tower, and in the tarot The Star is the card that immediately follows The Tower. To me, this means that we’ve been through some challenges, and now is the time to consider how we might move forward after taking some time to renew, reflect, and reorient.

Drawing The Star is a gentle reminder to reconnect with your inner wisdom and seek guidance from a higher power. You’ve weathered a storm, and now is the perfect time to reflect on how your past experiences, beliefs, and judgments shaped your journey so you can align with your true north.

True north is a metaphor for your calling, it’s what you want to accomplish in life. Think of it as a combination of your values, beliefs, and sense of purpose. The term originates from the literal concept of North on a compass, representing a fixed direction.

True North is a crucial concept in navigation, especially for those using a compass. Unlike magnetic north, which can vary due to Earth's magnetic field, true north is a fixed point at the geographic North Pole.

Why is True North important? Navigating using true north ensures the most precise direction and location. Unlike magnetic north, which can fluctuate over time, true north remains constant. I bet you can see where I’m going here, finding your true north is very powerful, because when you know what it is, it helps you follow your path, not that of another. Very often, those who are in alignment with their true north live a fulfilling life because they are guided by their inner light.

Just as true north is a fixed point on a compass, your calling is a fixed point in your life. It's the direction that aligns with your deepest values, passions, and purpose. Finding your true north can be a journey of self-discovery, but once you've identified it, it provides a clear sense of direction and motivation.

When I look at this card, I see a central figure kneeling beneath one large star and several smaller ones. They pour water from a pitcher onto the earth, representing nurturing and healing. They also pour a pitcher into a pool, which I believe represents tending to our inner wellspring and vitality. I also see a bird in the background, symbolizing wisdom, intuition, and the ability to see the bigger picture.

Judgement

Judgment represents a culmination, a final assessment, or a spiritual awakening. It can signify a significant transformation, new beginning, or new stage in life.

In Maria Minnis’s book Tarot for the Hard work she says, “The key here is to view judging as discernment, rather than punitive evaluation. View your past lovingly and gently. You did the best you could with what you had. Grant yourself an appropriate level of absolution. And now that you know better, do better.”

When I look at the card I see a central figure, which is the angel, symbolizing divine judgement or guidance. Surrounding the angel are figures emerging from graves, representing resurrection and new life. I’ve always felt this archetype represents a bridge between the earthly and spiritual realms.

The term "judgement" in the context of this card doesn't imply condemnation. Instead, it refers to a spiritual evaluation or assessment of one's life. It's a time to reflect on past actions, learn from mistakes, and embrace a new beginning.

When the Judgement card appears in a reading, it suggests a significant transformation or spiritual evolution is taking place. It's a call to embrace change, let go of the past, and step into a brighter future.

The Knight of Wands

The Knight of Wands indicates a readiness for this new beginning and an eagerness to get started. Symbolizing action, enthusiasm, and a drive for adventure, it often represents a new project, a journey, or a burst of creative energy.

The Knight of Wands from the Smith-Waite deck is a dynamic and energetic figure, often depicted as a young, fiery knight riding a horse. The knight represents youthful energy, enthusiasm, and a strong sense of adventure. They can be associated with impulsiveness, passion, and a desire for action.

The horse symbolizes power, speed, and drive. It reflects the knight's energy and determination. The wand represents creative energy, inspiration, and willpower. It symbolizes the knight's passion and drive.

The Knight of Wands can represent a sudden burst of enthusiasm, a strong desire to act, the spark of creativity, a love of exploration, a willingness to take risks, and a desire to succeed.

When the Knight of Wands appears in a reading, it often suggests a need for action, a burst of energy, or a new opportunity. However, it can also indicate impulsiveness, impatience, or a lack of focus. If we want to take full advantage of this archetype it would be a good idea to also lean into the lessons of The Star and the Judgement cards.

On Spiritual and Emotional Renewal

These three archetypes together mark a time of spiritual and emotional renewal. This can manifest in various ways, but some common signs include:

  • Increased sense of peace and well-being

  • A feeling of inner calm and contentment

  • A heightened ability to trust your gut and follow your heart

  • A deeper understanding of your thoughts, feelings, and motivations

  • Increased compassion and empathy

  • A greater ability to connect with others and understand their experiences

  • A clearer understanding of your life's goals and direction

  • A yearning to connect with something greater than yourself

  • Stronger connections with loved ones and a greater sense of belonging

  • A surge of inspiration and a desire to express yourself creatively

Spiritual and emotional renewal is a personal journey, and the signs may vary from person to person. The most important thing is to pay attention to your own experiences and notice positive shifts in your life and overall awareness.
